Diagnosis
Their team members are trained to take a precise medical history and thoroughly examine the relevant joint. This will often produce a diagnosis which can be further investigated using x-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and arthroscopy.

X-rays - different views - arthritis, loose bodies, osteochondritis dessicans (OCD) Ultrasound - for swellings, bursa, quadriceps ruptures, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) Magnetic resonance scanning - for articular cartilage, menisci, ligaments Arthroscopy - usually once diagnosis has been made, allows for treatment.

Treatment
London Knee provides a comprehensive range of treatments for conditions that affect the knee.

1. Physiotherapy
Many knee problems can be treated with physical therapy, ice, rehabilitation and mobilization, some conditions, for example, torn cartilage, will require arthroscopic surgery.

2. Surgical treatments

  • Arthroscopy - meniscal tears, loose bodies, chondral injury
  • Ligament reconstruction
  • Fracture repair
  • Arthritis - high tibial osteotomy, Uncemented knee replacement, total knee replacement

Medical decisions on knee replacement options will take into account the patient’s age and general health and the severity of symptoms, as well as patient preference.

Their consultants can perform a total prosthetic replacement of the knee joint, including the patella if necessary and this is done under a general anaesthetic and requires up to 7 nights stay in hospital.

Comprehensive heath check-ups can be of great benefit to many men. Many conditions do not reveal themselves and can go undetected for many years with deleterious effects.

Conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol do not cause symptoms until they are advanced and severe. Other common diseases such as diabetes and the effects of alcohol, smoking and excess weight often go undetected until irreversible damage is done.
The purpose of health screening is to give a snapshot of a man’s health status and to advise and manage health and lifestyle problems before they become serious.

It also allows an individual to track his health status over time and to take advantage of other screening services as he gets older such as prostate and bowel cancer screening after the age of 50 for example.
A full medical examination, investigations and blood and urine tests can give a baseline assessment of health status and can indicate whether certain areas need to be addressed sooner rather than later or just monitored over time.

In addition to the comprehensive men’s health check, prostate and testicular cancer screening services, other screens are also available. The Mens Health Screening Centre Provides Treatment for the following conditions:
Testicular Cancer
Andropause
Male menopause
Hypogonadism
Erectile difficulties
Ejaculation disorders
Diabetes

This involves demonstrable and audited excellence of the three essential components required - medical staffing, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, and research activity.

Platinium levels of required standards have been set for eligibility of staff to work in the unit to maintain skill and expertise.

With such unparalleled levels of staff and equipment, the Institute must also fulfil its logical potential to contribute to the future of breast care by carrying out properly conducted and meaningful research. Several of the Institute staff already have major International profiles and will take their place along with chosen colleagues from Europe and the UK on the International Research Board to supervise and produce important and published work.
