Mr Francis Lam offers a One-Stop Shoulder Clinic whereby patients will receive a consultation, diagnostic ultrasound scan (carried out by him) and treatment all in one session. Where appropriate, he injects the shoulder under ultrasound guidance thus improving its accuracy and efficacy.

As a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery, Mr Lam hopes that this will greatly improve the patients experience by providing a prompt diagnosis and early treatment, thus minimizing the number of days the patient has to take off work. Furthermore, delays in treatment have been shown to adversely affect the outcome after surgery. Mr Lam is a Shoulder Specialist based in London.

London Knee Unit is a dedicated unit based at The Princess Grace Hospital in central London.

These surgeons work primarily at The Princess Grace Hospital within the extensive orthopaedic and trauma facilities.

Surgeons and physicians are available for advice, treatment and care for all orthopaedic, trauma and sports conditions at your convenience.

Diagnosis
Their team members are trained to take a precise medical history and thoroughly examine the relevant joint. This will often produce a diagnosis which can be further investigated using x-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and arthroscopy.

X-rays - different views - arthritis, loose bodies, osteochondritis dessicans (OCD) Ultrasound - for swellings, bursa, quadriceps ruptures, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) Magnetic resonance scanning - for articular cartilage, menisci, ligaments Arthroscopy - usually once diagnosis has been made, allows for treatment.

Treatment
London Knee provides a comprehensive range of treatments for conditions that affect the knee.

1. Physiotherapy
Many knee problems can be treated with physical therapy, ice, rehabilitation and mobilization, some conditions, for example, torn cartilage, will require arthroscopic surgery.

2. Surgical treatments

  • Arthroscopy - meniscal tears, loose bodies, chondral injury
  • Ligament reconstruction
  • Fracture repair
  • Arthritis - high tibial osteotomy, Uncemented knee replacement, total knee replacement

Medical decisions on knee replacement options will take into account the patient’s age and general health and the severity of symptoms, as well as patient preference.

Their consultants can perform a total prosthetic replacement of the knee joint, including the patella if necessary and this is done under a general anaesthetic and requires up to 7 nights stay in hospital.

5. Revision of total replacement of knee joint
